What StoolColor is
StoolColor is a plain-language reference for people who want to understand what their stool color, shape and texture can mean. Most people never talk about it, and many search results are either dense medical pages or scare stories. We aim for something in between: clear, calm, and honest about when to seek care.
Who is behind it
StoolColor is an independent information site. It is not written, reviewed or approved by a doctor or other licensed healthcare professional, and the site owner is not a medical professional. StoolColor is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of the organizations whose publications it cites, or by the makers of any product it mentions.
How we write our guides
- Guides summarize published information from recognized medical sources. The sources are listed at the bottom of each page so you can read them yourself.
- We describe possible causes, and the signs that those sources say need a call to a doctor or emergency care.
- We do not name a diagnosis for you, and we do not recommend any product, medicine or dose.
- We aim to review pages from time to time, but medical guidance changes and a page may not reflect the latest information.
What this site cannot do
StoolColor does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. A guide cannot examine you, know your history or tell you why your stool looks the way it does. If you are worried, contact a clinician. If you think you are having an emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Read the full medical disclaimer and terms of use.
